Deciding Between Single or Tandem Axle Trailer for Cleaning Business
Question:
I’m planning on buying a new 14’ trailer for my hood cleaning business. I’m not sure of the total weight I’ll be hauling but, it will include a large pressure washer and a variety of tools. The axles are 3500 lb capacity. I’m trying to decide if I need 2 axles, or will 1 do. Thanks

The decision between going with a single or tandem axle trailer is really just going to depend on the total weight of your cargo. If the trailer is going to weigh less than 3,500 pounds when fully loaded with your pressure washer and tools, then I recommend sticking with a single 3,500 pound axle. This is going to allow for easier maneuverability on the road and fewer components to keep maintained over time.
If the weight will exceed 3,500 pounds then you really have no choice but to go with two 3,500 pound axles. You will need to make sure in either instance that all the other components on the trailer (frame, body, hubs, wheels, etc) are also sufficiently rated for the trailer's loaded weight.
I have attached a few links that will take you to our selection of trailer hubs, axles, and suspension parts along with a great article on axle placement that you might find helpful.
