Question:
Hello, I have a tandem axle 2004 Keystone Cougar that is rated at 6580 lbs. What weight axle and leaf spring should I be looking for? My trailer is sitting too low and I need to raise it up a few inches. any suggestions?

If your 2004 Keystone Cougar 301 BHS has a dry weight of 6,580 lbs then you most likely have two 3,500 lb axles which is a pretty common size. However, if you take a quick measurement of the tube's diameter that should then confirm this. If it is 2-3/8" then you have two 3,500 lb axles. If it is 3" then it will most likely have 5,200 lb axles. In regards to leaf springs, you will need to measure the distance between the eyes while unloaded for replacement. It looks like your leaf springs are pretty flat now so I would recommend replacement. Please provide me with your unloaded eye to eye measurement so I can confirm the correct part for you.
The new leaf springs should then give you a bit more clearance but other than that the only real option I have for you is larger wheels/tires.
