Does The Rubber Stripping In Rola Ladder Rack For 2014 Toyota Tacoma Need To Be Cut For Accessories
Question:
I intend to use this ladder rack for kayaks and ladders but not both at the same time. Does the weather/anti-mar stripping in the crossbars need to be cut to fit whatever anchors or attachments are being used? Or, is adjustable with a slit down the middle? For example, do I need to determine the exact location of my anchors and cut each piece of rubber strip accordingly for proper placement of every anchor, or is it adjustable on the fly?

Yes, the buffer strip in the Rola Haul-Your-Might Ladder rack cross bars for the 2014 Toyota Tacoma part # 59799 needs to be cut to fit around your channel mounted accessories. You will need to measure to cut the exact location of your anchors.
Most Ladder Racks do not come with the rubber buffer strips in the bars. If you want a ladder rack designed without the rubber strips Thule TracRac part # TH27000XTB-TA for the Toyota Tacoma is a great option. The bars are aerodynamic to cut down on wind noise and we have not had any customer reviews complaining of wind noise.
If you are concerned about marring the Kayaks, I recommend using kayak carrier foam such as Malone Kayak carrier with tie down straps part # MPG152 with either roof rack. The foam will protect the kayaks and bars. The foam also helps keep the kayaks from moving around a lot after being tie down to the bars.
