Is it OK that Curt MV Weight Distribution Head Has Slight Play On Shank
Question:
I have tightened down the two bolts to the shank with the suggested 200 FT/LB but I still have some play between the shank and the head. I that normal? I would estimate about a 1/8inch gap.

Expert Reply:
If the two 3/4-inch bolts, washers and nuts that secure the head assembly to the shank of your Curt MV weight distribution system # C17051 are installed properly and you have also installed the adjustment pin and flat washers you do not need to worry about the 1/8-inch of play between the head and shank. For reference, these parts are shown in the linked instructions as items 8, 9, and 10 (bolts, washers and nuts) and items 18 and 19 (pin and washers).
When components are going to be given a protective powder coat finish that can vary slightly in thickness often the manufacturer will allow for a little extra room to ensure a good fit when everything is brand new.
