Trouble Finding the Brake Controller Wiring Port on a 2019 Chevy Blazer

Question:

Cant find the wires to installer electric brake controller. Manual says the body harness, inside the front driver side instrument panel, contains blunt cut wires below the headlamp switch, but they must be very well hidden. Dealer wont even install it, probably because they dont know where to find it either. Also tried taking of the kick panel but didnt see anything obvious there either.

I do have an option for you but we have not yet gotten out hands on a 2019 Chevrolet Blazer therefore, have not had the chance to look for the brake controller wiring port either. I checked with both Tekonsha and Curt and it looks like they have not had the pleasure of doing so either. However, I was able find in the manual where it stated that, "Wiring provisions for an aftermarket electric trailer brake controller are included with the vehicle as part of the trailer wiring package. These wiring provisions for an electric trailer brake controller are included with the vehicle as part of the trailer wiring package. The body harness, inside the front driver side instrument panel, contains blunt cut wires below the headlamp switch for the electric trailer brake controller."

With that being said, in most cases the brake controller port isn't exactly right where they say it will be because its usually tapped to other wires in that general vicinity. Was your Blazer equipped with a factory 7-way? If not then it may not have came with the trailer wiring provisions for an electric trailer brake controller. If this is the case then I recommend you use the Curt Echo Mobile Trailer Brake Controller part # C51180 along with the 7-Way RV Upgrade Kit for Trailer Brake Controller Installation part # ETBC7L. If you do have a 7-way then you can still use the Curt Echo and you still don't need to worry about finding the brake controller port as this brake controller does not require any modifications to the tow vehicle.

The other major reason I like this brake controller is because it uses a device you are already comfortable using (your phone), you do not need to read an entire comprehensive manual and familiarize yourself with the controls and codes to use it. Please note that if your phone loses power the brake controller will still function as normal.

I have a 2021 Blazer. The vehicle went to the dealer twice to try to find the brake controller wiring. The first time they could not find it. The second time they kept it for the day and with help from GM Tec found the wiring under the center console, which they had to remove along with the drivers seat. The dealer wanted $300 for "customization" of the vehicle. I escalated it to GM arguing that the wires were supposed to be in one place and they installed it in another. They stubbed the wiring out just forward of the center console. The 12 Volt cable and the brake power cable are both blue. Find the one with a constant 12v and use that as the power and use the other blue wire as the brake output.

This was very helpful, and I will add this with a little more info. Taking the driver side console cover is helpful, 1 screw under a little plastic cover down by the driver's right foot, then there are quite a few snap clips, a long thin screwdriver is helpful. The right side top console pad will need removed as well, just pops off. Once the side cover is removed you will see the wires taped up in a loop right next to the gas pedal. The white wire with the black stripe is for the brake light/switch. The other white wire is the ground. Yes there are 2 heavier blue wires, one goes for the trailer brakes, the other is 12v hot, test light is necessary, hope this helps in addition.

I must add additional information to my previous comment. The small white wire had a blue stripe on it. The large blue wires looked the same. One of these wires had 12 volts on it when checked. Hope this helps anyone interested.

Had our 2019 Chevy Blazer at the dealer today. Told them to find the trailer brake controller wires. They found them on the center console area just ahead and to the right of the foot feed pedal on the firewall area. Totally different area than what the owners manual said. There is two blue wires of the same wire gage. There is also two white wires with one a smaller gage than the other.

Thanks so much for the info! Hopefully it will be helpful to other neighbors in your same position. If those wires aren't labeled at all you'll just have to test them for function to ensure you make the right connections when installing the controller.

@Tharshman According to page 254 of the online owner's manual for a 2019 Blazer one of the blue wires goes to the trailer brakes, the other blue wire is the battery feed (constant 12V power), the white/blue is the brake apply signal (cold side of stop light switch), and the black is a ground. You'll want to verify this on your end as well.
