Can Extension Cord Be Used Between Solar Panel Charger and Battery

Question:

Hi. Would a Battery Tender extension cord be compatible with this? I want to keep my mower charged while it’s in my barn and I think a 25’ cord would be long enough

The Performance Tools 2.5 Watt Solar Battery Charger # PTW2997 includes a 9-foot cord and both a cigarette lighter style and a spring clip style extension that plug in with 2-pole connectors like those on part # 9651P. If your battery tender's cord uses this type of connector then it will plug in and function but you'll want to keep in mind that the added 25-feet of wiring will cause some voltage drop.

If you happen to have a set of heavy gauge jumper cables around, something like the 4-gauge 20-foot # HMBC0860 then this heavy cable will help to minimize voltage losses between the panel and the battery. Also keep in mind that the panel's output will vary by time of day; peak charging power will be during the midday hours and naturally when the weather is clearest.
