ST Tire Pressure for Kenda Brand Trailer Tires

Question:

I purchased a set of ST Kenda 12inch Load B rating trailer tires. I see you recommend inflating these to their full PSI rating. My question is if the total weight of my boat and trailer is say for example is 50 less than the B rating of the tire. Do you still recommend inflating the tires to their full PSI? Thank you

Expert Reply:

Yes. Kenda recommends running their tires at the max psi when inflated cold no matter the weight on the trailer. The good news is a tire with load range B is going to be softer than a higher ply/load rated tire. Goodyear is the only manufacturer we carry that gives a sliding PSI rating based on the weight actually on the tires at any given time. Not inflating to the required PSI can cause tires to overheat and wear too quickly or even blowout.

For example the # AM10060 should be run at 60 psi and the # AM10064 should be run at 55 psi when filled cold (prior to your trip). This allows the psi to raise based on ambient temps and road friction to still operate within the required range for proper traction and tread wear.
