Strait Line Weight Distribution Recommendation for 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee
Question:
I have a 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited V6 4x4 with factory towing package, and a new 2019 Airstream 25 foot trailer, base weight 5600 lbs. and hitch weight 835 lbs. The dealer will be installing a Reese Strait Line Weight Distribution System. Two questions: 1. Which Reese model would you recommend? 2. Does the WD system have the effect of reducing the hitch weight of the trailer? Somewhat increasing the max. allowable tongue weight of the tow vehicle. Thank you!

Expert Reply:
Tongue weight is the most important factor when picking out a weight distribution system. Since we know your tongue weight is 835 lbs the best Strait Line kit is the part # RP66084 which has a tongue weight range of 600-1,200 lbs.
The WD system don't give you additional towing capacity but typically on vehicles there will be a second set of capacities listed if you are using a weight distribution system. If you have a second set and they are higher this would be the only way you'd get a "higher" capacity.
