Can the Derale Remote Transmission Cooler be Mounted Horizontally on a 1997 Ford F-350  

Question:

1997 F350 / plan to mount cooler horiz.,under bed of truck,next to drive line. witch way should the air flow go,up or down

On a cooler that has its own fan, like # D13700, it does not matter which way you have the unit oriented. It will provided optimal airflow no matter how it is positioned. However, there are some things you will want to consider. It would probably be better if the airflow was blowing down in this case. The reason is that if it were blowing the other way the hot air could heat up the floor boards/bed instead of the hot air just blowing down and away from the vehicle.

If you position the cooler this way you will need to make sure that there is enough space above the fan for optimum airflow. You also have to consider that if the cooler is mounted horizontal, rocks and debris can bounce up and easily damage the unit and/or it would be susceptible to road grime. The cooler would have to be in a location that protects it as much as possible.

If you can, I do recommend mounting the unit vertically anywhere there is space to avoid possible damage or inefficiency.
