Replacement Option for Lippert Smart Jack Electric Trailer Jack

Question:

The small flimsy top of my smart jack disappeared during a thunder storm. Apparently water enters the switch area and shorts out fuse. The jack auto retracted. I finally found the inline fuse. In search for a cover I found this was extremely dangerous product on the recall list. No problem whatsoever until you try to find a dealer that will replace the product. Forest River Rockwood “ will not return calls the manufacturer will not return calls . One dealer told me he would sell me another brand if I left my trailer for 3 days- difficult for a full timer. Who is responsible as the product is in warranty.

There was indeed a recall on the Lippert Smart Jack Electric Trailer Jack part # LC643589. It sounds like you have a pre-recall version but in order to confirm you can look on the back of the jack for a sticker on the stem with a serial number. If there is no serial number present or if it is lower than SJWP2017-07-0001, then the jack was made prior to the recall and it will need to be replaced.

In regard to who is responsible, that is not really my place to say but most people will go through the trailer manufacturer, Forest River, or the trailer jack manufacturer, Lippert. If you like, we can also offer you a new replacement jack one that will not auto retract/extend in a thunderstorm. For this, I recommend the Stromberg Carlson Electric Trailer Jack part # JET-3755 which is very easy to install and has a level built-in the head. There is also a cover for this jack, the Vinyl Cover with Drawstrings for Stromberg Carlson Electric Jacks part # JET-01. If you ever have any issues with this jack we will take care of you!
