Troubleshooting Surface Rust on Trailer Brake Rotors

Question:

You said surge brakes work of the motion of the vehicle to work. I put new tires on my trailer rotors had a lil rust on them after driving to tire place. So if they where working they wouldnt have any rust so what do i need to look for so they are helping me to stop. Thanx

Theoretically if you just have some surface rust on your rotors it would be knocked off after a drive that included a couple solid braking events. If you still notice rust on the rotors after towing the trailer then this could indeed be an indication that there's an issue with the brakes or simply that the rust you found is a bit deeper than surface level.

If the rotors are badly rusted then your best option is just to replace them completely. I have attached a link that will take you to our available selection.

If it is just surface rust then it's possible that you have some calipers that need to be replaced. I have again attached a link that will take you to our available selection, such as the Kodiak # KDBC225DAC designed for 3,500 to 6,000 pound axles. This particular caliper features a plated Dacromet construction that will provide superior corrosion resistance.
