Easiest to Install 7-Way and Brake Controller for a 2010 Toyota FJ Cruiser

Question:

Hello, I have a 2010 Toyota FJ Cruiser with the factory tow package. The factory tow package came with a flat four plug. I am buying a trailer with brakes and need to install a brake controller and a 7 way plug. Are there kits that use the existing flat four plug? Also are there kits that do not require me to tap the brake light wire? I am looking for the easiest install. Thank you,

Yes, we have a 7-way trailer wiring harness for you that uses the existing 4-way trailer connector and we have a brake controller that does not require you to splice into the stop light switch circuit. For this, I recommend using the Curt Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller part # C57186 along with the Curt Echo Mobile Trailer Brake Controller part # C51180.

The Curt Universal Installation Kit will plug into the 4-way you have now as mentioned above and the only other circuits you will need to attach are the 12 volt power lead which gets run the vehicle's battery and the ground wire which gets run to a bare metal spot on the frame.

The Echo is a relatively new brake controller that is gaining a lot of popularity. The reason for this is because it does not require any modifications to the tow vehicle, it just plugs into the 7-way and you use your phone to customize settings and activate the manual override. The other major reason as to the growing popularity of this brake controller is because it uses a device you are already comfortable using (your phone), you do not need to read an entire comprehensive manual and familiarize yourself with the controls and codes to use it. Please note that if your phone loses power the brake controller will still function as normal.
