Locating Correct Replacement Seal for Older Trailer

Question:

I have nev r adjust dexter electric brake #k23-465-00. When I took of the old drum grease had caked on the magnet as well as the brakes. My friend said that I need to replace the grease seals on the drum. I called around but everyone said i needed some number that was on the spindle. I have a 1992 Elante RV with a tag axle which has the electric brakes. What size seals do I need? Thanks.

Finding grease on the brake magnet and around the assembly is definitely a sign that the hub's grease seal needs to be replaced. The people you have talked to are correct. When searching for the right replacement you will need to check for a number that should be stamped right inside the seal itself.

If you can't find a number, you can also use a digital caliper to measure the diameter of the spindle where the grease seal rides (see attached diagram). This will give you the seal's inner diameter. You will then use the caliper to measure the hub bore where the seal is installed. This will give you its outer diameter. Simply use the two measurements to locate the correct size seal for replacement.

I have attached a link that will take you to our complete selection of grease seals that you can look through. The options can be filtered by their inner/outer diameters when using the facets on the left side of the page. I have also attached a great article on replacing bearings and seals that you might find helpful.
