Do I Need To Disconnect the ITBM on a 2018 Ram 2500 To Install the Tekonsha Prodigy P2
Question:
Bought my new truck without factory trailer brake controller because I much prefer the Prodigy controller. Ordered the Prodigy from you guys but I’m reading a bunch of stuff about having to disconnect ITBM/TIPM? Does this apply to my truck without factory trailer brake controller or just trucks that do have the factory controller? The controller I ordered is supposed to be showing up today so it hasn’t been installed or anything yet.

The Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Trailer Brake Controller part # 90885 when paired with the Tekonsha Plug-In Wiring Adapter for Electric Brake Controllers part # 3024-P on your 2018 Ram 2500 will be a direct plug and play. Since you said you do not have a factory integrated trailer brake controller module (ITBC), there will not be any programming or flashing required for installation. This is only required if your truck came with a factory integrated trailer brake controller module (ITBC) as you mentioned. The trailer integrated protection module (TIPM) is something completely different and not anything that you have to worry about when installing a brake controller.
If you take a look at around the 5:00 mark in the attached video you will be able to see the location of the brake controller port on your Ram.
