How To Use Large Off-Road Tires on a 4x6 Utility Trailer

Hello, I have a 4x6 utility trailer and I was looking to add larger tires. I was hoping to convert it for eventual off road use with my Jeep as a camping trailer. I have 5 old take offs that are 245/75/16 and 5 on 4.5 adapters , was looking to use them since they are paid for. I already see I don’t have the axle length @60 in for side wall clearance, even with the fenders off. Any suggestions how to proceed? Longer axle? Thanks

The best option we have for you is an axle-less kit designed for larger off road tires such as the Timbren Axle-Less Trailer Suspension System part # ASR1THDS03 with the Trailer Idler Hub Assembly for 3,500-lb E-Z Lube Axles part # AKIHUB-545-35-EZ-K. This system will provide you with a 2,200 lb weight capacity, 4" lift for increased ground clearance, and a 5 on 4-1/2" bolt pattern.

The reason that this kit is the best option for you is because it will provide 8-1/2" from the hub face to the frame rail (see photo). This increased hub face to frame measurement is going to allow you to run some very beefy off road tires. This exact kit is used on a lot of off-road trailers we see nowadays so I think it will be perfect for what you are wanting to do.

The biggest draw of the Timbren Axle-Less Trailer Suspension System is that there is no center axle tube to get hung up while off road.
