If your 2015 Ford F-150 is just equipped with the factory 4-Way then I recommend using the Universal Wiring Kit # ETBC7 to add a fully-functional 7-Way connector. Some models of your F-150 do have the brake and hot lead wires already ran from under the hood to the driver's side frame rail but they are extremely difficult to reach so even in these cases we recommend running new wiring.
This means that with traditional brake controllers that mount inside the dash you will indeed need to run the brake output wire (blue) from the controller back to the 7-Way and power wires from the battery to the controller and back to the 7-Way if you want the 12V pin activated.
I have attached the complete installation instructions for the wiring kit that you can look through as well.
A brake controller that I really like that will simplify not only this initial installation process but also the general operation once you are ready to tow is the Curt Echo # C51180. This unique controller simply plugs into the 7-Way on the truck once it's installed and pairs to your smartphone via Bluetooth. Your phone then becomes what you use to adjust any settings or activate the manual override so you don't have to add and wire in another component to the cab.
The Curt Echo just requires that the 12V pin is active on the 7-Way so the only additional wire that needs to be ran when installing the connector is the hot lead to the truck's battery. I have attached a demonstration video on the brake controller so you can see exactly how everything works.
