Question:

I have two 10 ft by 30 inch wide kayaks that i want to transport on my 2007 Yukon XL roof rack. What carrier would you recommend?

Expert Reply:

For a tall vehicle like your 2007 Yukon I recommend two side-load kayak carriers that face to the outsides of the vehicle since these will make loading easier. My kayaks are the same size as yours and although they are not particularly heavy (about 40-lbs each) I like not having to lift them any more than necessary!

All side-load carriers that fit factory roof racks are shown on the page I linked for you and they are all pretty similar, but in terms of features and value it's hard to beat the etrailer.com folding carrier # E98878. This lightweight aluminum carrier folds down when not in use, includes load straps and tie downs and has nice padding to gently cradle your kayaks. It offers twice the weight capacity of the Malone # MPG114MD and it costs less.
