Why Does Saris SuperClamp EX Use Strap on Front Wheel Cradle But Kuat NV Does Not

Hi there, The Superclamp EX wheel clamps look pretty secure. Are the straps on each wheel actually necessary, or is it just an extra layer of protection? I ask because some other manufacturers who use this sort of clamp dont have wheel straps on their wheels Kuat NV front wheel for example. Thanks,

The wheel strap on the front wheel cradles of the Saris SuperClamp EX 4 Bike Platform Rack # SA4026F should definitely be used but basically all of what secures the front wheel to the wheel cradle is the arm that comes down and holds the wheel to it. The strap is basically an added security measure. Other bike rack manufacturers may not feel quite as cautious as Saris does like with the Kuat NV part # NV22G-NA22G but what's also worth noting is that the wheel cradles of the NV are a bit longer too.
