Should Hopkins Impulse 47235 Light Up When Stepping on Brakes without Trailer Connected

Question:

Question. I installed the Hopkins Brake Controller 47235 to my 2008 Escalade. When not connected to the trailer will it still light up when applying the brake or will it stay unlight? I had the next version down on my last vehicle with the yellow light and that yellow light light up everytime I compressed the brake. Then I push the large main button or the increase or decrease braking the lights do show. Im asking as I have my camper buried in mound of snow and I cant get back to hook it up. Just want to make sure I installed it correctly. Thanks

I spoke with my contact at Hopkins regarding your newly installed Impulse model 47235 brake controller and he said that on this particular unit there won't be any lights when stepping on the brake controller if you're not hooked up to a trailer. He did mention, like you did, that on previous generation controllers there would be a light or number displayed when applying the brakes whether connected to a trailer nor not but that is not the case with the Impulse.

It sounds like the brake controller is functioning as it should in your Escalade. Just let me know if you have any further questions or concerns.
