Can Self-Adjusting and Manual Adjusting Braking Assemblies Be Mixed
Question:
Is the Dexter self adjusting brake assembly compatible with a manually adjusted brake on the opposite side of the axle?
asked by: David E
Expert Reply:
It is not advised to mix self-adjusting and manual adjusting braking assemblies on the same axle. It is also not advised to use self-adjusting braking assemblies on one axle and manual adjusting braking assemblies on the other. The result of doing so would be uneven braking pressure which would result in control issues as well as safety concerns.
If you have a 3,500 lb axle or multiple 3,500 lb axles on your trailer then you will need to use the Dexter Nev-R-Adjust Electric Trailer Brake Kit part # 23-468-469 for self-adjusting and the Dexter Electric Trailer Brake Kit part # 23-26-27 for manual adjusting.
If you just need to replace one side on a 3,500 lb axle/axles then you will need to use the Dexter Nev-R-Adjust Electric Trailer Brake Assembly part # 23-468 for left hand or part # 23-469 for right for self-adjusting and the Dexter Electric Trailer Brake Assembly part # 23-26 for left hand or part # 23-27 for right hand for manual adjusting.
