Can 15k BTU Atwood AC Unit Replace a 13.5k BTU Unit

Question:

We have a 15000 main a/c that is ducted throughout our 2017 cougar xlt 5th. It has one vent in the bedroom, bathroom and kitchen, and two vents in the living area 5 total. The ceiling opening in the bedroom is prepped for a 13500 a/c. 1. The 13500 needs to be ducted correct? 2. With both units running will I need to make any modifications to the ductwork to handle the increased airflow? 3. What is the DB noise rating on the Attwood 13500? 4. Any warranty issue if I DIY install? Thanks etrailer!

Expert Reply:

The ducting for a 15k or 13.5k BTU AC unit on an RV is the same. If you replace your 13.5k unit with the part # AT15028-22 it would install in the same way and the increased air flow would not be an issue. The noise level will be between 55 and 66 db. You can install it yourself too without having to worry about warranty issues.
