Is There a Brake Controller Port on a 2016 GMC Terrain/Chevrolet Equinox
Question:
I have a 2016 gmc Terrain with no towing package. I also have a Tekonsha brake controller. I already have a 7plug connector in the back. Is there a controller wiring adapter for my specific suv and if so, how do I connect the wires from the 7plug connector when the brake controller will by connected to the box underneath the drivers side console if equipped with it?

The 2016 GMC Terrain/Chevrolet Equinox does not have a brake controller port. The process to install a brake controller on this vehicle is fairly complex, especially when compared to the conventional process which works on most vehicles. This process is so in depth that there was a technical service bulletin (TSB) created just for this, 18-NA-123. If you are experienced with 12 volt electricity and vehicles in general then you should be able to complete the process in around a few hours. With that being said, I strongly consider that you look into a wireless brake controller the Curt Echo Mobile Trailer Brake Controller part # C51180. If you were to have the Tekonsha brake controller you already have installed by a shop then the cost to do so would likely be close to this option.
The Echo is a relatively new brake controller that is gaining a lot of popularity. The reason for this is because it does not require any modifications to the tow vehicle, it just plus into the 7-way and you use your phone to customize settings and activate the manual override. The other major reason as to the growing popularity of this brake controller is because it uses a device you are already comfortable using (your phone), you do not need to read an entire comprehensive manual and familiarize yourself with the controls and codes to use it. Please note that if your phone loses power the brake controller will still function as normal.
