Why Do My Trailer Brakes Only Work While In Reverse
Question:
I have a Reliance Brake Box. It works on other trialers with no problem. I bought a new trailer and the brakes work in reverse but not forward. What might be the issue?

There could be one of two issues that are causing the brakes to only engage while in reverse. The first issue which would make sense for the E2 error on the Hopkins Towing Solutions Trailer Brake Controller part 47285 is that you have the reverse and brake output wire on the trailer switched. The reverse wire which is usually purple will most likely need to be run to the center pin on what I assume is a 7-way trailer connector whereas the brake output wire which is usually blue will most likely need to be run to the pin in the 1 o'clock position. However, so long as both the vehicle and trailer side match it should not matter what color the wires are or which pin each function has (so long as they match). I have attached our trailer wiring help article which should clear this up.
The other possible issue is that the braking assemblies are installed on the wrong side (left to right). If you pull the hub and look for the large actuating arm, this should be pointed towards the front of the trailer. If it is not then the braking assemblies will need to switch sides.
