Is There Any Advantage to Having a 3 3,500 lb Axle Over a 2-3/8 3,500 lb Axle
Question:
What would upgrading a 3500lb axle from 2 3/8 inch to 3 inch get me? Would it be less likely to deform when fully loaded and travelling on a rough surface?

Expert Reply:
If the weight rating is the same then swapping your 3,500 lb axle with a 2-3/8" diameter to a 3,500 lb axle with a 3" diameter wouldn't do anything for you. Since 3,500 lbs is a very common axle weight rating manufacturers make them with both the 2-3/8" and 3" diameters. If you are looking to upgrade your axle to a higher weight rating then it is possible but unless that is your component with the lowest weight rating nothing will really change on your trailer.
Just make sure that you aren't exceeding the weight ratings of your axle/suspension/trailer as well as keeping to a routine maintenance schedule (see attached) and you should be good to go! Just let me know if you have anything specific you are needing to upgrade and I can help you find a solution.
