How To Install the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 on a 2008 GMC Sierra 3500 with Factory Brake Controller
Question:
I dont think my IBC has ever worked very well. I have hooked it up to a tandem axle fifth wheel and a tri axle gooseneck trailer, both brand new, and have to have the gain maxed out at 10. Still didnt seem to stop very well. my dad has a 2006 with your Voyager hooked into his truck. There is such a night and day difference towing. Ive always felt a little nervous towing with my truck, because i think my truck is doing way more breaking then the trailer, if not all. Can I hook up a P-3 to my truck with a factory 7 way you have, or is there more i have to do. Either way, Im going to omit the factory IBC in my truck, and go aftermarket. Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

The route of bypassing the factory brake controller in light of an aftermarket option such Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller part # 90195 is becoming more and more common because the factory brake controller just doesn't compare to the higher-end aftermarket options like the above. The Tekonsha Prodigy P3 allows you to store settings for multiple trailers, has boost features to increase braking power, and even works with electric over hydraulic trailer brakes.
In order to install the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 on your 2008 GMC Sierra 3500 you will need to make a few connections which are outlined in the article I have attached for you as well as in the photo. There are a few wires you need to splice into but there is no dealer programing required and you can do everything from home. Please let me know if you have any question on this process.
