Cargo Carrier With Ramp Recommendation to Carry Cub Cadet Snowblower on an Acura MDX
Question:
i have a heavy 260 lbs Cub Cadet 3x snowblower that I have difficulty transporting for repairs and maintenance. It is advertised as 28.5 inches wide. I am wondering will the subject carrier be able to handle this snow blower? Also I will obviously be transporting during the winter when roads will be bumpy. How much play is there in the hitch? Will I have problems with bumps and this unit bouncing? It will be attached to a 2012 Acura MDX.

We do carry a carrier with a ramp that you can use to carry the Cub Cadet snowblower but the MaxxTow wheelchair carrier is not wide enough to carry the snowblower. The usable interior width space of the carrier is only 28 inches wide so the snowblower would not fit inside of the carrier.
Instead, I recommend the Reese Steel cargo carrier with ramp part # PS10401-10402 because the usable space is 47-3/4 inches long by 31-3/4 inches wide. That gives you over 3 inches of extra width on the carrier while carrying the snowblower. The weight capacity of the Reese cargo carrier is 400 lbs so it can withstand the weight of the 260 lb snowblower. I have attached a photo from our installation of the cargo carrier on an Acura RDX. We have also had customers submit photos of their snow blowers on the cargo carrier.
You do want to check the tongue weight capacity of the hitch on the Acura to make sure you do not exceed the capacity. You have to factor in the weight of the snowblower and the weight of the carrier itself when figuring tongue weight. The carrier itself weighs 101 lbs.
The Reese cargo carrier does come with a pin to pin the carrier into the hitch but I recommend the Lets Go Aero Anti-rattle trailer hitch lock part # 63232 to lock the carrier into the hitch. The Lets Go Aero Anti-Rattle lock reduces rattle and play in the hich connection to help eliminate bouncing. However, customer reviews have not mentioned extra bouncing with the Reese cargo carrier without the use of the anti-rattle lock.
If you do not have tie down straps already I recommend etrailer.com Ratchet Tie Down straps part # ETBMB-05852. The S-hook style are more reliable because the wire in the center keeps it from accidentally disconnecting from the cargo carrier. They also come with a handy storage bag.
