Best Solution for Carrying Bike Rack While Towing Cargo Trailer

Question:

I need a dual hitch in order to tow my 7200 pound cargo trailer typically less than 5000 pounds along with a 4-bike Thule rack. The D210 works except that the bikes and Thule would have to be removed before unhitching my trailer. I need a workaround or different product which offers greater clearance than the 2 1/4inch plus 3 9/16inch dimension indicated. Approximately 8 1/2inch total would work as opposed to the 5 13/16inch provided by the D210. Unloading everything before unhitching the trailer does not work for me. Thank you,

Expert Reply:

The Stromberg Carlson Bike Bunk Trailer-Mounted Bike Rack Carrier # CC-275 would probably be your best option. This attaches to the a-frame of your trailer and give you a hitch opening up above the front of the trailer to carry the rack. Typically this is used on camper trailers like what I attached a picture of but it works just fine on cargo trailers as well. This would not require removing the rack before disconnecting the trailer either.
