The 225/55-17 tires are bigger than the manufacturer normally puts on the vehicle. If you have these tires, you will have even more limited clearances so I recommend only using the Konig Premium Self-Tensioning Snow Tire Chains - Diamond Pattern - D Link - K-Summit - Size K44 # TH02230K44. These chains require no inner clearance as they only ride on tread portion of the tire. I've linked a video of this to assist. The chains should be installed on the front tires of your 4Motion system.
If you have the 205/55-17 tires that are one of the manufacturer options, then I recommend either the similar Konig Premium Self-Tensioning Snow Tire Chains # TH02230K33 or the Pewag Snox Pro Self-Tensioning Snow Tire Chains - Diamond Pattern - Square Link - 1 Pair # PWSXP550 which have the rim protection and require clearances of 1.46" (37 mm) between the top of the tire tread and the wheel well and at least 0.59" (15 mm) between the tire's sidewall and the Volkswagen Golf Alltrack itself.
