Rear Cargo Access with Hollywood Racks Sport Rider 4 Bike Rack on 2016 Toyota RAV4

Question:

Can you tell me if you would be able to open the hatch of a 2016 Toyota Rav4 with the bikes loaded? Also, could you give me measurements from the car? We have the etrrailer 2inch hitch e98864 installed. Thanks

The Hollywood Racks Sport Rider SE 4 Bike Rack # HR1400Z referenced in your question does feature a tilt away design that should give you rear cargo access on your 2016 Toyota RAV4. It's difficult to say for certain if you will be able to open the hatch completely because it is dependent not only on the vehicle but also the size of the bikes you plan on loading (specifically the handlebar width).

You should at least be able to open the hatch enough to gain access to the rear in order to load or pull out cargo. I have attached an image just to show an example of a larger vehicle where the hatch isn't able to open fully because of the handlebars on the inner bike but the rack still allows a large enough opening to easily access the cargo area.

When used with the etrailer Class III Trailer Hitch # e98864 on your RAV4 the closest part of the rack when it's flat for use will sit about 4-1/2 inches from the rear bumper. When it's folded up for storage it will still sit a solid 2 inches away from the bumper. This means you don't need to worry about any interference between the rack and your vehicle when it's installed.

If you are looking for a rack that guarantees full access to the rear cargo area on your RAV4 the best option is with a swing-away rack like the Yakima FullSwing # Y02465. This 4-bike hanging style rack features a hinged arm at the base that allows you to swing the entire rack (with the bikes loaded) out and to the side of the vehicle.

I have attached a short video demonstration that you can check out as well.
