Recommended Tow Dolly for 2018 Ford Edge FWD or Flat Tow System for AWD

Can a 2018 Ford Edge be flat towed or does it need dolly

A 2018 Ford Edge with 2.7L EcoBoost or 3.5L can be flat towed. You cannot flat tow the 2.0L Ecoboost but you can dolly tow it. The manufacturer recommend dolly towing all FWD vehicles and flat towing AWD vehicles but in either case they recommend not exceeding 65 mph.

If you choose to use a tow dolly, I recommend the Demco Kar Kaddy SS Tow Dolly with Disc Brakes - Foldable - 4,800 lbs # DM9713045. This system uses disc brakes and a surge brake coupler. It does not require adding a brake controller to your motorhome. This system will give you better stopping power using disc brakes and it has the nice folding option to give you more storage space.

If you have an AWD vehicle, I need more information to get you the correct fits. Do you have a Titanium, SE, SEL, or Sport? Do you have Active Cruise Control? Let me know that info and I'd be happy to help with all the various components needed. I've linked an article to help with the overview.

If the vehicle weight is 5200 lbs. how can you recommend a dolly weight under that at 4800lbs?

I'm not showing that a Ford Edge weighs quite that much, but if that's the weight you're getting you'll definitely need a higher-rated dolly. Unfortunately we don't have any models available with a capacity higher than 4,800 pounds.

@ChrisR Do you use the total weight of the vehicle or do you use the weight of the axle on the dolly? If its the axle weight, then no problem. If its total weight, then it is a problem as most Ford edge's have a GVWR of 5200 to 5700 lbs. thanks for the discussion.

@Andy You'll definitely go by the actual total weight (not just axle weight). It's important to note though that the vehicle's GVWR refers to the most it can possibly weigh when fully loaded with passengers, cargo, etc. The actual curb weight for your Ford Edge would be significantly less than this. I would check with a local Ford dealer. Give them your VIN and they should be able to tell you its curb weight.
