The best place to verify whether or not a weight distribution (WD) system can be used is the owner's manual. Typically when WD cannot be used with the vehicle the owner's manual states so as a warning. Since this isn't the case in the online version of the owner's manual for your 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee I see no reason why you couldn't use one. It is always best to verify this with your copy of the manual as well.
When choosing a WD system you want one that has a tongue weight (TW) range that the total tongue weight (TTW) of your falls in the middle of. Since TTW includes the loaded TW of your trailer as well as any cargo behind the rear axle of your Grand Cherokee it is best to find this out before purchasing a WD system. Please note that a properly rated trailer will have a TW that is 10-15% of the loaded weight of the trailer. Portable scales like part # e99044 can be very helpful in determining your TW easily.
Once you know what your TTW is you can then choose your weight distribution system. I recommend going with an Equal-i-zer system like the part # EQ37100ET which has a TW range of 600 lbs - 1,000 lbs as these systems are very easy to use and they feature an integrated 4-point sway for excellent handling. This kit also includes the hitch ball so you just need a 1-7/8" thin-walled socket like part # EQ70-00-4800 to install the hitch ball.
Attached is a review video of the Equal-i-zer as well as helpful article on WD for you to reference.
