Recommendation for Lightweight 2 Bike Rack for Carbon Fiber Bikes

Question:

I am looking for a hitch bike carrier for a bike with a carbon fiber frame. I have a 2014 BWM X3 with a 2 inch hitch receiver. I want to carry up to two bikes. I have limited storage space for when the carrier is not in use so something that can fold up be moved to an apartment building storage locker is important to me. Because I will need to move the carrier around a bit, weight is important too.

For bikes like yours that feature carbon frames the best style rack is one that will secure the bikes by their wheels without any frame contact at all. For one that will work perfectly for your application I highly recommend the Kuat Sherpa 2.0 - Black # SH22B, which is also available in Gray # SH22G, Pearl # SH22P, and Gunmetal Gray # NV22G.

This is a fantastic platform-style carrier that can hold up to 2 bikes that each weigh 40 pounds. Its sleek design allows it to fold up completely for really compact storage (see attached image), whether still attached to the hitch up against the vehicle or inside your apartment. The carrier is also extremely lightweight at just 32 pounds due to its aluminum construction that makes for easy transport in and out of your complex or wherever you need to carry it along your travels.

The rack uses ratcheting padded hooks with pivoting cradles to secure the bikes by their wheels and a convenient foot pedal allows you to tilt the rack back (with the bikes still loaded) for easy rear cargo access on your BMW. Locks are also included to secure the rack to the vehicle and the bikes to the rack to give you peace of mind if you ever forget to bring it inside.

I have attached a short video demonstration as well so you can see exactly how the rack installs and operates.
