Can Konig Self-Tensioning, Low-Pro Snow Tire Chains be Used on Relatively Dry Roads
Question:
Hi. I was curious to see if these chains will work well in drier conditions where snow is not the main factor, as most of the roads are plowed. There may be ice still on the road but it would be more so dry, or wet with no snow. If it helps, I have a 225/40/18 tire MKVI GTI, and I struggle gaining traction with the cheaper snow links I’ve purchased in the past. Thank you!

Since the Konig Self-Tensioning, Low-Pro Snow Tire Chains # TH04115097 are a higher quality brand they will be much better for traction when installed on the 225/40/18 tires you have on your 2012 Volkswagen GTI than cheaper links will. They have D Links in a diamond pattern which is one of the best combinations out there.
In regards to whether or not you can use them on non-snow or ice covered roads, I wouldn't use them for that. All snow tire chains are meant to be used for dangerous roads and you can actually damage both your tires and the road if you are using them on dry roads. You will likely get a ticket as well if you are using them on dry roads.
I am not sure why you would be struggling with traction on dry roads aside from worn tires. Check to make sure that you have enough tread on your tire (the penny test is a fairly common way to test although some tires have markers on them) and if you don't it would be best to look into getting them replaced. It may also be a good idea to contact your local traffic authorities to see what they would like you to do in these conditions.
