What Type of Adapter is Needed to Tow Trailer with 4-Way If Tow Vehicle has 7-Way
Question:
My 2015 Soul has both 4 flat and 7 blade round rv connectors. My husbands F150 has just a 7 blade round rv connector. For towing with my Soul, I believe #118158 vehicle to vehicle tail light converter and W787264 4 flat trailer end would be all I need to use my 4 flat vehicle end connection. If we wish to tow with the F150 would the #47345 4 flat to 7 blade round adapter be all he would need?

Helpful Expert Reply:
To go from a standard 7-way to a 4-way all you need is a 7-way to 4-way adapter part # 47345. There would be no need for a taillight converter like part # 118158 since the turn signals and brake lights will be on the same circuit for both 7 and 4-way connectors. Since your Soul has a 7-way and 4-way already you would not need any type of adapter to tow a trailer with a 4-way either.
If you had a single trailer that had separate turn signals from stop lights that's where you'd want to install the # 118158. This way standard trailer wiring would always work with it and the adapter would only be where it's needed.
