Easiest Option for Trailer Brake Controller that Mounts on Trailer
Question:
The tiny travel trailer that Im building has brakes and an on-board battery. If I power the brakes from the battery thru an on-board proportional brake controller it seems that I could use the 118158 3rd brake light output to trigger the brake controller. Ive had someone tell me that they did this and it has worked well for over 10,000 miles. I know this may not be a supported use of the 118158, but does this sound like it will work?

It would be possible, but since it's pretty easy for the on-board battery to deplete itself and leave you without trailer brakes I would not recommend this. A better option would be the Curt Echo Mobile # C51180. This does not require a power source be present on the trailer either. All you need is a functional 7-way with an active 12 volt power source circuit.
