Best Vehicles for Flat Towing Behind Motorhome

Among the most popular passenger vehicles for flat towing are the various Jeep Wrangler models but in general manual transmission vehicles are more easily towed than automatics. 4WD vehicles with a manual transfer case also tend to be towable with fewer restrictions. The Fiat 500, Chevy Equinox, GMC Acadia, Toyota Corolla and Jeep Grand Cherokee are also popular choices currently.

The basic components of a flat towing setup include a tow bar, base plates, safety cables, a wiring or lighting kit of some type, a supplemental braking system and a high/low hitch adapter to keep the connected tow bar level which is important for its best performance.

The online manuals for the 2019 Kia Soul and 2019 Kia Sedona do not even mention flat towing at all. There is no mention of "flat towing", "dinghy towing" or "recreational towing" in the online copies I reviewed. Cars with an electronic transmission are typically not suited for flat towing.

You can check online motorhome forums for lots of owner comments on their experience towing vehicles. You could also ask your local Kia dealership, but I caution that you should insist they show you in writing that the specific version of the specific Kia vehicle you're considering can be towed all-wheels down. In other words, DO NOT take anyone's word on that. "Trust but verify" as the old Cold War saying went.
