Can 235/80R16 Tires be Used with 235/85R16 Tires on the Same Trailer

Question:

We have dually tires on flatbed trailer on the inside tires we have new tires 235x80R16 Einch rating. Trailer is not used once a year. The outside tires are dryrotted. Also have camper that has 235x85R16 Finch rated tires that are 4 yrs old, Plan to replace tires on camper and would like to put on the flatbed trailer. I was wondering if I could move the new tires to one axle and put camper tires onTTWTRTM2358016E the other axle. Please advise

Although they are similar in width, the 235/85R16 size tires are going to be almost an entire inch larger in diameter than the 235/80R16 size tires. This means that your trailer won't be completely level while you are towing and your tires won't wear evenly not to mention what could happen to your suspension over time.

I recommend replacing the tires on your flatbed trailer as well as your camper. For the 235/85R16 we have a load range F part # AM10501 load range E with a load capacity of 3,960 lbs at 110 psi. For the 235/80R16 I would recommend part # TTWTRTM2358016E load range E with a weight capacity of 3,520 lbs at 80 psi.

If your trailers will be sitting there for quite a while then some things you can do to help extend the life of your tires are to support the trailer with something other than the tires (like a jack) and let some of the air out, and then add some tire covers to help protect them against UV rays and the elements. The Adco Ultra Tyre Gard RV Wheel Covers # 290-3952 would make an excellent choice for your application as they fit 30" - 32" diameter tires.
