The hitch ball for the Curt Gooseneck Plate # 16055 referenced in your question is welded into place and cannot be removed.

If you are looking for a similar gooseneck plate that attaches to 5th wheel base rails but with a removable hitch ball I recommend taking a look at the Reese Above-Bed Gooseneck Trailer Hitch # RP58079. The ball for this system locks into place with a snap ring. This not only allows the ball to be removed if needed but also lets it rotate when you're towing to reduce binding with the gooseneck coupler.
