How to Convert a 100 Lb Propane Tank For Use with Type 1 Fittings

Question:

Trying to hook up to a 100# tank. I have various fittings that will make the connection but it doesn't start. The generator runs fine on a 20# BBQ tank. Thought about a 2-stage regulator but Sportsman says their regulator MUST be used. Any way to make the outlet on the 100# tank act like a 20# BBQ tank? Should I be able to use the OEM supplied regulator by just putting an adapter fitting on the 100# tank? Thanks.

Yes, there is a way to adapt the 100 lb propane tank you have to work with accessories that use a type 1 fitting like the ones that are generally found on 20 lb propane tanks and for this you will need the MB Sturgis Propane Adapter Fitting part # 204128-MBS. The majority of regulators used in RV applications are suited for tanks up to 100 lbs so you should not have any issue using your supplied regulator.
