Maximum Run Time of Superwinch Terra 45 ATV Winch
Question:
Does this winch require much cooling time for pulling items on a cart up a ramp with no more that 200 to 400 lbs. Also, can this winch be operated on a car battery that is connected to a charger instead of a vehicle without running out of power. I will be pulling loads up the ramp 15 feet at a rate of no more than a pull every 10 minutes. Thanks

The Superwinch Terra 45 ATV Winch SW1145220 has a maximum continuous run time of two minutes. It will require cooling after that, though there is not a specified period of time which is required. Superwinch says "several minutes" and notes that the ambient temperature will be a factor, with less cooling time needed in cooler weather.
In regards to operation, the Superwinch Terra 45 only requires a 12 volt DC charge such as a car battery so you will be able to use it but running out of power will simply depend on how hard you use the winch and for how long. For example, if there is no load on the winch it draws 21 amps of power but that increases to 178 amps at full 4,500 lb line pull. Having a battery charger attached at the same time, such as the CTEK # CTEK56353, isn't going to make too much of a difference because you will use more power than you can re-charge in that amount of time.
