We're glad to help you select your flat towing setup and we can do an install for you too.

For your 2018 Forester non-turbo with manual transmission the base plate kit I recommend is Roadmaster's Direct-Connect Base Plate # 52923-5 which I like for its very clean appearance once installed and for its twist-lock draw bars which are easy to install and remove. With this I suggest the Nighthawk All Terrain tow bar # RM-676 which features LED lighting to make your rig more visible to other motorists. For the improved safety from the LED lighting the Nighthawk is "priceless". It also includes safety cables and wiring. If you prefer a lower-priced tow bar the Falcon 2 # RM-520 is fine too but you'll need to add the safety cables and wiring. Please check out the video on the Nighthawk.

For a braking system you can go either of two ways, a portable system or a one-time-install type. For a portable option that you can keep into the future and use in your next towed car we have the EvenBrake # RM-9400 which you'll set up each time you tow. Or if you prefer to do it once, you can use a one-time-install system like the Roadmaster InvisiBrake # RM-8700 which takes more time to install but you only do it once. With this option you'll also need brake light relay kit # RM-88400 and diode kit # RM-154.

You'll also probably need a high/low hitch adapter to ensure your Nighthawk tow bar remains level when connected to the Thor and the Forester. Keeping the tow bar level helps ensure it will not bind up when you make turns. I linked an article on these adapters along with a few others on braking systems and general flat towing information.
