Supplemental Braking Systems to Flat Tow 2019 Jeep Cherokee
Question:
Good day - my apologies if this is obviously right in the product details, but Ive managed to miss these details. How does the Patriot III get a signal from the Tow vehicle? I see the Remote set up and mounting hardware for the display, but Im unclear on how the signal is generated to wireless speak to the portable braking system in the towed vehicle. Thank you for your assistance. Looking to flat tow a 19 Cherokee with the proper 2 stage 4WD equipment behind an 18 Thor Class A, Ford Gas Chassis.

The Blue Ox Patriot III BRK2019 works pretty simply; there is a remote in the cab of your RV and the system will be in your 2019 Jeep Cherokee. The remote will sense the deceleration of the motorhome and uses a long-rage radio frequency to send a signal to the brake system in your Cherokee to apply the proportional amount of braking power.
This is a good system but does require you to constantly install and remove the device each time you want to flat tow. A simpler solution and the one I recommend would be to use a supplemental braking system which is a one-time install you can leave in so you'll never have to deactivate or reactivate it. The two most popular options are the SMI Air Force One Supplemental Braking System for Motor Homes with Air Brakes # SM99243 or, if your 2018 Thor does not have air brakes, the SMI Stay-IN-Play DUO Supplemental Braking System # SM99251. I have added links to videos of these systems being installed on Jeep Cherokees for you to take a look at.
