2018 GMC Sierra 2500 HD Denali 6.6 Diesel/Crew Cab/Standard Box 5th Wheel Towing Capacity

Question:

I purchased this vehicle with the intent of towing a 5th wheel. Suprisingly the Tire and Load sticker states a payload of 1952 pounds. It is equipped with all full towing options from the factory. Would this vehicle tow a Grand Design 310GK safely. I am getting all different opinions even from the dealer who says that it will. The calculations that I have done seem to indicate otherwise. Thank you.

The Grand Design Solitude 310GK has a 15,000 lbs GVWR with a pin weight of 2,350 lbs. Based on what I can find online from GMC website the truck if it is 2WD should be able to tow a 5th wheel trailer up to 15,400 lbs or if you have the 4x4 would be 13,500 lbs towing. It sounds like you would have too much trailer for your truck.

I would most definitely trust the sticker on your truck over the dealer trying to sell you something. The pin weight should not exceed your payload.

The Reese Select Plus 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch - Single Jaw - 20,000 lbs # RP30081 you asked from would be a great hitch option for you and is rated much higher than your truck's towing capacity. If you don't already have a hitch, you would be safe with anything over your truck's rated towing capacity. Let me know if you need further help.
