Thule T2 Hitch Mounted Folding Bike Rack Clearance for Opening the Tailgate on a Toyota Tacoma
Question:
Im thinking about the Thule T2. I have a toyota tacoma truck. Im wondering if I have two bikes on the rack, when I tilt the rack down, can I open the tailgate of the truck without hitting the bikes?

When the bike rack is loaded with bikes, the shank on the Thule T2 Bike Carrier, item # TH9045, measures 18 inches from the center of the hitch pin hole to the first bike carrier rail. When the bike rack is folded up, you will lose clearance, and will onlybhave 3-1/2 inches between the hitch pin hole and the bike-carrier rails.
When the bike rack is tilted away from the truck your tailgate height will determine whether the gate can be opened. You might want to take a look at the video we offer of the bike rack, see link, for a better idea of how the rack pulls away from the vehicle. I honestly cannot tell you for sure about your tailgate, because it will be different for each truck.
