If there are no brake/turn signal lights on the left hand side of your trailer then the first thing you will want to do is check the fuse for that circuit in your vehicle's fuse box. It should tell you in the owner's manual where that fuse is located but if not it will be labeled on the underside of the cover/lid. After the fuse is checked you will then need to test the left hand brake/turn signal circuit on the vehicle side trailer connector. If no power is present then there is most likely a short in that wire and you will need to begin tracing it back while checking for breaks.
If both the fuse and vehicle side trailer connector check out then you are going to need to trace the left hand brake/turn signal wire from the trailer side trailer connector all the way back to the tail light assembly while checking for breaks. If you have access to a different trailer/tow vehicle you can save yourself some time by narrowing down which side the issue is occurring on. Don't forget to check the actual bulb in the tail light as well.
