Compatibility of Hollywood Racks Over-the-Top 3 Bike Rack on 2005 BMW X5

Question:

2005 BMW X5 One of the pads rests against the rear window. Is this putting a lot of pressure on the window? I would hate to break this window after hitting a bump in the road, or whatever.

The Hollywood Racks Over-the-Top 3 Bike Rack for Vehicles w/ Spoilers - Trunk Mount - Adjustable Arms # HRF2-3 will have one of the pads resting on the rear window of your 2005 BMW X5. This will not put too much pressure on your window as the weight will be more distributed over the entire rack and the other bar that also will have the foam padding that makes contact with your vehicle. Rest assured that there will not be any scratches or damage to your vehicle when used as intended. We have had no reports of breaking windows on any vehicle with this bike carrier. This carrier is a favorite for people with the spoiler on the rear hatch because there is no contact at all with the spoiler which with other racks could cause damage when hitting a bump like you stated.

If you desire additional security, I recommend using the Thule Passive Security strap # TH533 which will lock the rack to your locked hatch. This has two metal cables inside a nylon sleeve to give you strength and yet protect from scratches. Then you can use a cable lock like # e98891 to secure your bikes to the frame to deter theft.

If you have any step thru style frames, I recommend the Hollywood Racks Bike Frame Adapter Bar for Women's and Alternative Frame Bikes # HRBA-PRO. This will create a top frame rail between the seat post and handlebars for level transport and ground clearance.

If you are still concerned about contact with your vehicle, then I recommend using a trailer hitch and a hitch mounted bike rack. I've linked those pages to assist and can make a recommendation for you if desired.
