Installing a New Trailer Connector On an Old Trailer with Red, Black, Brown, and Grey Wires

Question:

My replacement plug has brown, white, yellow, green wires, but the old harness has red, black, brown, and grey white? bare wires from the old hookup. Can you tell me the proper connections, please? It is a small, old, simple trailer for hauling. Thanks.

It sounds like you are trying to replace the trailer connector on your trailer. If that is the case then I can offer assistance but I won't be able to tell you exactly which connections to make nor would anyone for the exception of the person who installed the existing wiring harness. The reason being is that the colors you have (red, black, brown, and grey) are not inline with the industry standards which means we would have no reference to their function. Therefore, you are going to need to test the wires for function which can be done by applying a 12 volt hot lead to each one and then checking to see which circuit it illuminates. This will be the only true way to determine the function of your wires.

The trailer connector you are trying to install should have the following functions based on the industry standard wire colors:

White = Ground
Brown = Running Lights
Green = Right Turn/Stop
Yellow = Left Turn/Stop
