Roof Rack for 2007 Honda Fit Sport for Use with Thule Tandem Roof Bike Rack

Question:

I cant seem to find the roof capacity of my 2007 Honda Fit Sport. I find conflicting information on various online forums. Ive checked the online owners manual but it doesnt mention a roof weight at all. The info Ive found online says that the roof can hold 100-130lbs, but different sources fall somewhere in that range. Id like to install this roof rack on my Fit and use it with the Thule Tandem Bike Rack to carry one Co-Motion Periscope Hammerhead tandem bike. The bike weighs 30-40 lbs. I dont have the bike yet so I cant exactly weigh it. Im also not sure if the bar spacing on this roof rack is correct for the Thule bike rack? Can you please help?

The best roof rack option at a price similar to the Rola is Inno's square bar rack made of parts # INB127, # INSUT and # INK219. This rack has a 28-inch bar spacing that is compatible with the Tandem and it has a 120-lb weight capacity when installed on your car. The Thule Tandem Roof Mounted Bike Rack # TH558P is compatible with round and square bar roof racks only so the Rola 59755 won't work because it uses wide elliptical bars.

If you wish to add a cable lock to secure the bike to the rack we offer # e98891 which is long enough to be routed through the frame and wheel.

Auto makers are not always very forthcoming with weight ratings for their vehicles' roofs. Since your manual does not address this you might contact a local dealership with the car's VIN in the hopes they can give you a straight answer, but you should be fine since the combined weight of the Inno rack (about 16-lbs) and the tandem carrier (about 12-lbs) is under 30-lbs total.

Even if your roof were to have only a 100-lb rating, you'd still have over 70-lbs of capacity for the weight of the bike itself. The Co-Motion website does not list bike weight specs; plus there are multiple size options for many of their tandems so you'll just want to confirm that your specific model and version does not exceed the remaining weight capacity after you account for the rack and carrier weights.
