Which Shackle Holes to UseWhen Installing Lippert Center Point on Trailer With Shorter Shackles

Question:

The installation manual states that if your shackles are 3-4inch use the shorter of the two possible holes on the supplied shackles. Our original shackles are 2 1/4. If I use the shorter holes on the supplied shackles I am at 4inch and the trailer is at the same height as it was stock. I have 3inch clearance above the tire with the weight of the trailer on the suspension. Is that enough clearance or do I need shorter shackles? It wasnt clear to me from the manual if I should us my original shackles. They need to be replaced no matter because there is some wear in the holes.

You need to use the included shackles of the Lippert Center Point System # LC1565391 that you referenced. I spoke with my contact at Lippert and they emailed me the following:

They would need to use the supplied shackles that came with the center point system. 3" inches of clearance should be enough for the installation. The center point system is not designed to raise the coach for more clearance as it is used specifically for a more cushioned and smoother ride.

There are three holes in the shackles. If I use the end hole and the middle hole for 3-4” configuration, where should the extra hole be? on the top or the bottom? I am concerned that the excess length hit something when while operating.

The extra hole should be at the bottom of the shackle when using the 3-4" configuration.

@ChrisR Lippert told me the extra hole should be at the top and that is how I installed them. Please clarify. It is not an easy job to change.
