Recommended Air Ride Pin Box and Hitch for Best Ride with Ford F-350 and Keystone Cougar326SRX

Question:

My current setup is a 2014 F350 Supercab SRW with Timbrens. I tow a Keystone Cougar 326 SRX using an Andersen Ultimate rail version hitch and factory kingpin. Pin weight will range between 2200 to 2600 depending upon whether we are hauling a toy. Recently we hit a stretch of freeway that really got me wondering if there is better equipment or combo of that will provide a better ride over rough highway. Smooth pavement rides great of course, but it seems there is just as much rough as there is smooth in some states. Would an air helper springs with air hitch with air king pin combo be best or is there a better combo out there? Id really like to hear your recommendation as to what you have found to produce the best ride when loaded. Is there any combo that can provide a ride more similar to a motorcoach? Thanks, you guys are always great!

For your 2014 Ford F-350 when towing a 5th wheel, the best ride will come from air suspension in the pin box so it doesn't transfer to the truck. The next best option is to use air springs on your truck instead but you don't want to use both as that can simply transfer the bounce back and forth which isn't pleasant until the force dissipates.

Since you already have Timbren suspension enhancement on your truck, I recommend using an air ride pin box which is the best option anyway. They Keystone Cougar models use a Lippert 1621 pin box, so I recommend the Trailair Flex Air 5th Wheel Pin Box - Lippert 1621 - 18,000 lbs # LC328492 which will provide the shock absorption you are seeking. For an even better ride, you would need to trade out your hitch with one that has integrated cushioning like the B&W Patriot 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch - Dual Jaw - 16,000 lbs # BWRVK3200. This combination would be the best ride in my opinion.

I assume you are wanting a lightweight hitch and that is why you went with the Andersen Ultimate, but this hitch will provide much more support and shock absorption utilizing the same base rails you currently use. It is able to be easily installed and uninstalled in two pieces for convenience of moving the unit while distributing the weight. The locking system around the king pin will also provide a better connection for a smoother ride.

I've attached videos to further assist.
